Es un dispositivo de pequeño tamaño y poco peso, cuyo objetivo es reestablecer el ritmo cardíaco normal mediante la aplicación de una descarga eléctrica.
Funciona con unos parches que se colocan en la caja torácica del paciente y registran la actividad del corazón.
